The list of articles in the right rail is set very nice (in the terms too). Good typographic variation and finesse. I want to see that same kind of sophisticated typography in the nav and the article header.
What happens outside the left and bottom of your design when the browser frame is expanded? I imagine that tiling background appears at some point, but you should include whatever it is in you comps.
I like the original "round on top, square on bottom" tab better from last round, but the type color change is good on the new one.
Overall I think you could narrow the width of your site. Both the article page and the right rail articles seem a bit long for comfortable reading. Shorten the measure just a touch and then eliminate any excess.
However, the main content area on left feels very tight to the left! Keep margins/padding consistent around text and allow for adequate breathing room.
I like the color improvements. The gradient is nice. Not sure about the spots though. What are those?
Header needs aligning with the content areas. Either to the left, or maybe try centering and integrating it more with the site. Still feels a bit tacked on.
For the main nav, work on your typography. Maybe a pt sz or two smaller? Maybe all caps? Maybe kerned a little? Maybe a different face? Just needs finessing b/c currently has that default feel.
Work on the secondary nav so it also "belongs" to something. Currently those words are floating with not much relation to the nav above.
I think overall the simplicity of your site is good. Be sure to keep it simple and watch the details and craft.
